Experience

10 years tutoring in English, writing, French, Italian, history IB Diploma with HL History of the Americas (6), HL English (7), HL French (7) AP Euro Test - 5 Former College Admissions Counselor I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double major in French Studies and Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies. I've taught English as a Second Language, French, English/Language Arts and Literature across the US and in France. I recently finished my Master's degree in Comparative Literature and Criticism. I believe every student can succeed when given the proper tools to do so. My tutoring style comes from my own experience as a student. Any subject can be interesting if the teacher shows her enthusiasm for the subject. My lessons include introducing the topic in a new and creative way, practicing with the students and returning back to the original subject matter with new questions from the students. When students are engaged, especially with literature, they learn so much more and I believe everyone can enjoy studying English when given the opportunity to look at the subject material through a new perspective. I have tutored middle school, high school and college students. The subjects usually center around reading comprehension and writing. I'm a passionate proof-reader who loves to explain how to make academic writing stronger and more articulate. Knowing how intimidating it can be to learn and speak a new language, my approach focuses on creating ample opportunities to use the language in comfortable setting where you can make a mistake and learn from it. I use games, songs, and movies to supplement the traditional classroom approach of learning a new language through reading, writing and speaking. My accent is a traditional Parisian accent with hints from Northeastern France, where I spent a year working in a local French high school, and Swiss French, where I completed my undergraduate degree. Everyone can succeed in English reading, writing and literature! Each text provides new ways to connect with the theme through its unique use of literary devices and I love to employ close readings with color coding to help students identify each important aspect of the text. Before a student can properly write a strong essay, he/she must be able to articulate their thoughts so my strategy includes having a discussion about the text with text-based evidence before constructing an outline and beginning the writing process. I love English and look forward to sharing this with you! All students can succeed and I look forward to working with you to uncover the great mysteries of French language and English! Contact me to learn more about my experience and arrange a time to start working with me. I'm willing to travel to your location as well.
